Perfect for brunches, holiday gatherings, or special mornings, this indulgent casserole is easy to prepare the night before and bakes up beautifully in the morning, making it a crowd-pleasing favorite.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

For the Casserole:

1 loaf brioche or French bread, cubed

6 large eggs

2 cups milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup maple syrup

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries

Optional Garnish:

Powdered sugar for garnish

Instructions

  • Grease a 9×13 baking dish and add half of the cubed bread.

  • Sprinkle half of the blueberries over the bread, then repeat with the remaining bread and blueberries.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.

  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and blueberries.

  • Cover and refrigerate overnight to allow the bread to soak up the custard mixture.

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and firm in the center.

  • Let the casserole sit for 10 minutes before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Fruit Variations: Swap blueberries for strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries, or mix several fruits together for a fruity medley.

  • Nutty Twist: Add chopped nuts like pecans or almonds for some crunch.

  • Spices: Experiment with adding nutmeg or ginger for a different flavor profile.

  • Dairy-Free Option: Use non-dairy milk and coconut cream to make this casserole dairy-free.
