Easy to make and packed with flavor, these cheesy thumbprints are the perfect combination of comfort and spice, making them an irresistible appetizer.

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 20 appetizers

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra spice)

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup hot pepper jelly

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

  • In a large bowl, mix softened butter and shredded Cheddar cheese until smooth. Gradually add flour, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using), mixing until a soft dough forms.

  • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

  • Using your thumb or the back of a spoon, press an indentation in the center of each ball to create a thumbprint shape.

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

  • Once removed from the oven, cool the appetizers for 2–3 minutes. Spoon a small amount of hot pepper jelly into each thumbprint.

  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

    • Cheese Variations: Substitute Cheddar with Monterey Jack, Gouda, or Parmesan for a different flavor profile.

    • Spicy Option: Add extra cayenne or red pepper flakes to the dough for a spicy kick.

    • Sweet Heat: Swap hot pepper jelly for a sweeter pepper jelly for a milder flavor.

    • Herb Twist: Add fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, or oregano to the dough for extra flavor.
