Chicken Shawarma with Creamy Garlic Sauce is a juicy, flavorful dish featuring tender chicken thighs seasoned with bold Middle Eastern spices. Paired with a rich, tangy garlic sauce, this easy-to-make recipe is perfect for dinner or a special occasion. Serve it in pita bread, over rice, or with a fresh salad for a satisfying and delicious meal your family will love.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

2 lbs boneless chicken thighs

1 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp shawarma seasoning

1/2 tsp paprika

1/4 tsp cumin

1/4 tsp turmeric

1/2 cup yogurt

2 tbsp mayonnaise

1 garlic clove, minced

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

  • Rub the chicken thighs with olive oil and shawarma seasoning, making sure each piece is evenly coated.

  • Place the chicken on the baking sheet and roast for 25–30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and slightly crispy on the edges.

  • While the chicken is roasting, prepare the creamy garlic sauce by mixing together yogurt, mayonnaise, minced garlic, and a pinch of salt and pepper in a small bowl.

  • Once the chicken is done, remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing or shredding.

  • Serve the chicken with the creamy garlic sauce on the side or drizzle it over the chicken. Serve in a pita, with a salad, or over rice.

Notes

  • For a smoky flavor, grill the chicken instead of roasting it.

  • Add a pinch of cayenne or red pepper flakes to the shawarma seasoning for some extra heat.

  • For a dairy-free option, use dairy-free yogurt and mayonnaise in the garlic sauce.

  • Serve with roasted veggies, couscous salad, or hummus for a complete meal.
