Ingredients
- 1 large sweet onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- ¾ cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Onion Rings: Slice the onion into rings and set them aside.
- Prepare the Coating: In one bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat the egg with milk. In a third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.
- Coat the Rings: Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs. Repeat until all rings are coated.
- Fry the Rings: Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- Serve: Remove the fried onion rings from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve with ketchup, mayonnaise, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Spicy Onion Rings: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or paprika to the flour mixture for a spicy kick.
- Cheese-Stuffed Rings: Before coating the onion rings, stuff them with a small amount of cheese, like cheddar or mozzarella, for a gooey surprise inside.
