Make warm, crusty bread effortlessly with this Crockpot Bread recipe! Perfect for beginners, this no-oven-required method produces a soft, rustic loaf that’s easy to customize with your favorite herbs, seeds, or cheese.

  • Total Time: 3 hours 10 minutes
  • Yield: 8–10 slices

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Optional Toppings: herbs, seeds, shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add Wet Ingredients:
Gradually add warm water and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:
On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the Dough Rise:
Place the dough in a bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape and Prepare:
Shape the risen dough into a loaf. Grease the slow cooker and place the dough inside.
  6. Cook the Bread:
Cover and cook on high for 2–3 hours. The bread is done when the crust is golden and it sounds hollow when tapped.
  7. Cool and Serve:
Remove the bread and let it cool on a wire rack. Slice and serve once cooled.

Notes

  • Make it Your Own: Add herbs or seeds for flavor, or try whole wheat flour for a hearty loaf.
  • For a crispier crust, place the cooked bread under the broiler for 1–2 minutes.
  • Ensure water temperature is warm (not hot) to activate the yeast effectively.
