  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

4 large russet potatoes, peeled and sliced

2 tablespoons butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 cup onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 1/2 cups heavy cream

1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.

  • Stir in the heavy cream, cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Cook until the cheese is melted and the sauce thickens.

  • Layer the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Pour the creamy cheese mixture over the potatoes, ensuring they are fully coated.

  • Cover with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to achieve a golden brown top.

  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the cheese sauce for some heat.

  • Vegetarian Version: Layer in sautéed mushrooms or spinach for added texture and flavor.

  • Herb-Infused: Add fresh or dried herbs like thyme, rosemary, or chives to the cheese sauce for a fragrant touch.
