This Homemade Barbecue Sauce is smoky, tangy, and bursting with flavor, making it the perfect complement to your grilled meats, veggies, or even as a dipping sauce. With a balance of sweetness, smokiness, and spice, this easy-to-make BBQ sauce is better than store-bought and can be preserved for year-round enjoyment!

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 cups

Ingredients

  • 4 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine all the ingredients and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Stir occasionally and let the sauce simmer for 20-25 minutes, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
  3. Sterilize canning jars by boiling them in water for 10 minutes to ensure they are clean and bacteria-free.
  4. Pour the hot barbecue sauce into the sterilized jars, leaving about 1/2-inch of headspace at the top.
  5. Wipe the rims of the jars clean, place the lids on, and process in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes to seal.
  6. Let the jars cool completely before storing in a cool, dark place.

Notes

  • Spicy BBQ Sauce: Add red pepper flakes, chopped jalapeños, or hot sauce for extra heat.
  • Smoky & Sweet: Increase the amount of smoked paprika or add liquid smoke for a deeper smoky flavor.
  • Vinegar-Based BBQ Sauce: Reduce sugar and honey and increase apple cider vinegar for a tangier sauce.
  • Fruit-Infused BBQ Sauce: Blend in fruits like peaches, pineapple, or mango for added sweetness and a fruity twist.
