Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease a baking sheet.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Add the buttermilk and mix until a dough forms. The dough will be sticky, so don’t worry if it feels a little wet.
- Shape the Dough: Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet and form it into a round loaf. Score a deep “X” on top using a sharp knife to help it cook evenly.
- Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Cool: Let cool before slicing. Enjoy with butter or your favorite spread!
Notes
- Add Raisins or Currants: For a sweet variation, add 1/2 cup of raisins or currants to the dough.
- Herb-Infused: Add dried herbs like rosemary or thyme for a savory twist.
- Whole Wheat Version: Use 50% whole wheat flour for a more rustic flavor.
