Mozzarella Stuffed Onion Rings with Garlic Butter are the ultimate indulgent appetizer or side dish. Crispy on the outside, gooey and cheesy on the inside, these onion rings are stuffed with mozzarella cheese and topped with rich, fragrant garlic butter. Baked for a lighter version of the classic, they are perfect for any occasion, and they’re sure to impress your guests!

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

2 large onions, sliced into rings

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1/2 cup flour

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Stuff each onion ring with shredded mozzarella cheese, pressing gently into the ring.

  • In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  • Dip each stuffed onion ring into the flour mixture, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Then dip it into the beaten egg, followed by the breadcrumbs.

  • Arrange the coated onion rings on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

  • While the onion rings bake, melt the butter in a small pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  • Once baked, drizzle the garlic butter over the onion rings and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb coating or mix hot sauce into the garlic butter for a spicy twist.

  • Cheese Variety: Swap mozzarella for cheddar, gouda, or pepper jack for a different flavor profile.

  • Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and flour for a gluten-free version of this dish.
