Ready in just 25 minutes, this easy copycat recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners when you’re craving Chinese takeout—without the delivery fee!

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

1 lb chicken breast, cubed

1/2 cup cornstarch

1 egg, beaten

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1/2 cup orange juice (fresh is best)

1/4 cup soy sauce

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon grated ginger

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  • Coat chicken pieces in cornstarch, then dip in beaten egg.

  • Add chicken to the skillet and fry until golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same skillet, combine orange juice, soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer.

  • Return fried chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in sauce.

  • Simmer 2–3 minutes until sauce thickens and glazes the chicken.

  • Serve hot with rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Healthier Option: Bake instead of frying at 400°F for 20–25 minutes.

  • Spicy Upgrade: Add more red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce.

  • Extra Thick Sauce: Stir in a cornstarch slurry (1/2 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water) if needed.
