Philly Cheese Steak Burgers combine the juicy, meaty goodness of a classic burger with the cheesy, caramelized flavors of a Philly cheesesteak. Topped with melted mozzarella and provolone, sautéed onions, and bell peppers, this mouthwatering burger is perfect for a quick dinner or a backyard cookout.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded provolone cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the Onions & Peppers: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers, season with salt and pepper, and cook until soft and caramelized (8-10 minutes). Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Make the Patties: In a bowl, mix ground beef with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Form into 4 equal-sized patties.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil in the same skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  4. Melt the Cheese: In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a mix of mozzarella and provolone. Cover the skillet with a lid to help melt the cheese.
  5. Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the hamburger buns for extra texture and flavor.
  6. Assemble the Burgers: Place the cooked patties on the toasted buns and top with caramelized onions and bell peppers.
  7. Serve & Enjoy!

Notes

  • Spicy Option: Add jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Cheese Variations: Use American cheese, cheddar, or Swiss instead.
  • Grilled Version: Cook the patties on a grill for a smoky char.
  • Keto-Friendly: Skip the bun and serve in lettuce wraps.
  • Mushroom Lover’s Twist: Add sautéed mushrooms for extra umami flavor.
