  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

For the Taco Pie:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 (8-inch) flour tortilla
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup sour cream (for serving)
  • ½ cup salsa
  • ½ cup refried beans
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper (for seasoning)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the Beef:

    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until browned. Drain any excess fat.
    • Add the taco seasoning mix and water to the skillet, stirring well. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  • Prepare the Pie Dish:

    • Grease a 9-inch pie dish and place the flour tortilla at the bottom.
    • Spread a layer of refried beans over the tortilla.
    • Add the seasoned beef mixture on top of the beans, followed by salsa and shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Bake:

    • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Cool and Add Toppings:

    • Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes.
    • Top with sour cream, diced tomatoes, black olives, and green onions.
  • Serve:

    • Slice and serve the taco pie warm with your favorite side dishes or additional toppings.

Notes

  • For extra heat, add jalapeños, chili powder, or sriracha to the beef mixture.
  • Vegetarian options: Substitute ground beef with black beans or a mix of vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, and corn.
  • For a more traditional taco casserole, you can layer the ingredients in a casserole dish instead of using a tortilla base.
