This ultimate cinnamon toast recipe transforms simple sandwich bread into a crave-worthy treat by slathering it with a rich cinnamon-sugar butter, baking it until crisp, and finishing under the broiler for bubbling caramelized perfection. It’s the ideal comforting breakfast or snack that comes together in just minutes.

  • Total Time: 16 minutes
  • Yield: 4 slices

Ingredients

Bread

  • 4 slices sandwich bread (any variety, hearty wheat is excellent)

Cinnamon Sugar Butter

  • 1/4 cup (56g) salted butter, softened*
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven – Preheat your oven to 350°F. Place your bread slices, in a single layer, on an ungreased, unlined broiler-safe baking sheet.
  2. Prepare Cinnamon Butter – In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly with a fork until you have a uniform, spreadable paste.
  3. Spread Mixture – Divide the cinnamon butter evenly among the bread slices. Spread completely from edge to edge to ensure every bite is flavorful and avoid uncoated corners.
  4. Bake the Toast – Place the baking sheet in the top or center rack of your oven (the top half, but at least 5 inches from the broiler). Bake for 10 minutes, or until the bread becomes lightly crispy.
  5. Broil to Finish – Turn your oven broiler to high and broil the toast for 1 to 2 minutes, just until the cinnamon sugar is bubbling. Watch very closely: if the edges begin to darken, remove immediately to avoid burning.
  6. Cool and Serve – Allow the toast to cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm for the best texture and flavor!

Notes

  • *If substituting unsalted butter, add 1/8 teaspoon table salt with the sugar and cinnamon.
  • Any sliced sandwich bread will work; for extra flavor and texture, use hearty wheat bread.
  • Don’t step away while broiling—the sugar mixture can burn quickly!
