  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

For the Herb Butter:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed

For the Steak & Sandwich:

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced into half rings
  • 4 slices Havarti cheese
  • 1 baguette, sliced lengthwise

Instructions

1. Prepare the Herb Butter

  • In a small bowl, mix softened butter, crushed garlic, and diced dill. Set aside.

2. Slice & Cook the Steak

  • Thinly slice the ribeye steak. (Tip: Freeze it for 10-15 minutes before slicing for easier cutting.)
  • Heat oil in a skillet over high heat.
  • Add steak slices, season with salt, and cook until golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.

3. Caramelize the Onions

  • In the same skillet, sauté onions over medium heat until golden brown (about 15 minutes). Remove from heat.

4. Assemble & Broil

  • Spread the herb butter on both halves of the baguette.
  • Layer with steak slices, caramelized onions, and Havarti cheese.
  • Place on a baking sheet and broil for 2 minutes until cheese melts.

5. Serve & Enjoy

  • Slice into portions and serve immediately!

Notes

  • Cheese Swap: Use Swiss, Provolone, or Gruyère for a different flavor.
  • Spicy Kick: Add red pepper flakes or drizzle with hot sauce.
  • Extra Crunch: Top with crispy fried onions or arugula.
  • Bread Options: Try ciabatta, hoagie rolls, or sourdough.
  • Sauce Boost: Add horseradish mayo, aioli, or balsamic glaze.
